What is BHRT?
BHRT stands for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, which involves replacing important hormones that regulate different types of body functions. BHRT uses supplemental doses of hormones that have a chemical structure identical to the hormones that the human body naturally produces.
This therapy is done after a doctor thoroughly evaluates you, typically through blood tests. Then a program tailored for your needs is created.
A lot has changed over the last 10 to 20 years with BHRT. The mass availability of human growth hormone (HGH), testosterone and other hormones that are bio-chemically engineered with the same exact bioidentical molecular structure of our own hormones, has driven down treatment costs. This is especially true in Costa Rica, where the high level of expertise among the country’s top medical doctors in anti-aging medicine and overall low costs have propelled medical tourism to be extremely competitive with North America.
How is BHRT done?
Traditional BHRT involves first performing a hormone test to determine your imbalance. Therapy can be provided in the form of creams, tablets or capsules.
Pellet implant BHRT is a preferred method of therapy because it more closely mimics the body’s way of delivering hormones to the areas in need. A blood test is first done to evaluate your hormone levels, then bioidentical hormone pellets – as small as a grain of rice – are slipped under the skin. Pellets provide continuous symptom relief for approximately four to six months, and safely increase the amount of hormones to meet your body’s needs.
You will need to consult with your doctor as to which type of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is best for you.
